Survey of Employees Regarding Hard Copy & Electronic Newsletters
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) wanted to conduct a survey of its employees regarding the departmental employee newsletters (hard copy and electronic) – The Source On-Line and The Source Highlights. The purpose of this research was to evaluate these products to determine the extent to which they meet the needs of their audience. The findings were used to support the development and improvement of internal communications. Issues related to I-Governance were also explored. A set of in-depth interviews conducted with EX-level employees complemented this quantitative research.
A national telephone survey was administered in both official languages to NRCan employees (excluding EX-level employees). Approximately half of the interviews were conducted in the National Capital Region, with the other half conducted in the regions (40 interviews in each of five regions). The data were then weighted to ensure that the overall results were proportionate to the distribution of NRCan employees. In total, 408 interviews were conducted, and interviews averaged 11 minutes in length. Based on a sample this size, the overall results can be considered to be accurate to within +/-4.62%, 19 times out of 20 (finite population factor applied).
